Holiday Poker Evening III
Last week was the third annual holiday poker game presented by the Lion Poker league. The night started off with a nice social gathering of friends and family in the lounge. Finger foods and drinks were available to all. We had two waitress/bar tenders to help out with any mixed drinks you would like. It was a very nice, casual time to celebrate the holidays and to unwind with friends. Everyone was “dressed up” and many had brought their significant others. I brought my wife along (who isnt that bad of a player herself) and we had a very nice time. It isnt often we get to things like this together so we appreciated the time out. (thank you Trey!)
When it came down to playing the game we had a total of 30 players. (29 players + 1 rebuy=30 players). We started off with $750 in chips at 1/2 blinds. There were three tables of players and unfortunately me and my wife were never together at the same table. Things started off slow for me. I was getting frustrated because I wasnt getting any cards, my big blinds kept being raised and I did not have an opportunity to semibluff at all. I was playing somewhat cautious since I was playing with several new players and wanted to feel out how they played. Things turned around a little while into it when pocket queens and a pocket aces doubled me up. Before you know it we are down to the final table. Next thing you know….we are at three players left. And this is when I was in big trouble. I was stuck between a boyfriend and girlfriend team. I couldnt believe they were both still in it. I also couldnt believe the girlfriend who was as drunk as drunk could be, didnt fall off her chair. She couldnt count her chips, she couldnt hold her head up…etc. It was difficult for me. I wouldnt say there was collusion going on but there definitely was some protection going on between them. The gf eventually took out the bf when she had back to back KK, AA. They would go all in against each other to try to double their stack against me, giving themsleves an advantage and it was the gf who had the stack now. I knew I could try grinding it out for a while but would have a huge uphill battle. Well, she took me out when she flopped a flush and I flopped an open ended straight draw with top pair. I didnt even think she looked at her cards. She probably wouldnt even recignize me if I met her again. Overall it was a fun night and a great way to ring in the holidays!

IT was my pleasure…a great time and surely the best to date. Now if I can just get a hold of my game in these events I’d be happier
