Wishing upon Stars

Last night I played at a brand new venue for my bar league at a local volunteer fire house. It is very convenient because it is only 15 min from my house.  The place was nice for what it was and the $1.00 Bud lite drafts made it even better. There were a total of 32 players with 4 tables of action. It was a special night for me because I brought my Dad out so he could try his hand at a “real” game. He has played with the family just a handful of times and knows the basics of the game and was ready to give it a try. He needed a little guidance in regards to the rules but he did fine. (he just needs to stop holding up his cards and looking at them so much!) The third hand into the game he almost doubled up when his pocket 7’s gave him a full house with A,A,7,?,? was on the board. Of course someone had an Ace and kept calling all the way until the river until they made a really good fold. After that big hand he won a few here or there, made some good calls and some questionable ones but overall he did well and in the end hand a lot of fun. It was nice for him to meet some of the “crew” as well.  After he went out (about 1.5 hours into it) he stayed and watched a little. I exposed my cards to him while he watched from behind me so he could see what I was playing and maybe learn a few things. It was also nice for him to hear, when a new player was moved to my table, say “Oh no! Not you!” to me. ha ha a little ego boost! It was all in fun though. Last time I played against her it  was in a cash game and I wiped her and her boyfriend out.  Almost happened again this night when I raised with J,J and ended up going all in after the river to a board that had 8,5,9,J,8. I hit my full house and she called all the way with her A,K. It helped she was well on her way to being drunk! After that not to much happened. I made some loose calls that hurt badly. Some misreads on my part. Another problem was that I was having to much fun and wasn’t concentrating like I should have been. To many side conversations going on distracting me. But I did have a lot of fun. The hand I went out with was A,K diamonds. Blinds were 25-50. I raised to 100. I was re raised to 200. Having 350 left I went all in and was called. He had Q,Q and I didn’t hit.  I came in 12th place. On my way out to my car I saw the most amazing shooting star ever! It was very bright and skipped across the horizon breaking up into several pieces before extinguishing. It was very cool. So I made a wish. A simple one. Give me pocket aces!
