Team Nike at the Walbert

So it was Monday yesterday so that meant playing at Pj Whelihans once again. This time there were around 36 players at 4 tables. My table was filled with familiar faces. A few that belong to the exclusive Lion Poker league that I also play in. Lion Poker is a league in the area that is invitational only and comprises some of the top talent in the Lehigh Valley. Lion Poker is on hiatus now so it was fun to play with some of them once again. The odd thing is that three of us all had on the same black Nike hat. We looked  like a team of some sort. Anyway, not to much happened, I didn’t have any “monster” hands, couldn’t bluff my way out of a paper bag and just couldn’t hit. It was an off night. One hand in particular does stand out. Blinds were 5-10. There were 4 of us in the pot. After the flop I had a gutshot straight draw. First to act bet $10, the two others behind him called. I hesitated, picked up $10 thinking “pot odds tell me to call”  but then decided to fold. Of course the turn comes and it would have given me the straight.  Betting continued and I would have ended up winning a nice sized pot. I froze and went against my better judgement and instincts. That is something I need to work on. Of course after that I chased the rest of the night and didn’t hit anything! I usually believe “thou shall not chase”. However in this previous case, I did have pot odds with a very small investment on my part and I was last to act.  I obviously should have called. I think I learned a little lesson from that. I ended up the night going all in with pocket tens for $65 when blinds were 10-20. I got called  and lost when my opponent had “K,J” and paired her “K” on the flop. I went out in 19th place.
